A more environmentally-responsible approach to film-making
Film production is often an energy-intense business with a large environmental impact – from the carbon footprint of cast, crew and equipment being transported large distances, to the resources required for the construction of sets for drama that are simply thrown away at the end of a production. The Number Three team were committed to finding a more environmentally responsible approach…
Location-based shooting, using existing resources wherever possible
Shooting locally in the Birmingham area
Recruiting cast and crew from the local area
Travelling via public transport wherever possible
Undertaking carbon-offsetting activities
We used Albert’s carbon calculator to assess the impact of our production and joined volunteers at The Heart of England Forest planting trees to offset our footprint – and hopefully create a carbon surplus. We have another session for cast and crew planned for once the lockdown is lifted.
A model for future productions
Number Three is more than a film. It’s a template for future Greenway Projects – compelling stories told through zero-carbon productions, creating opportunities for new talent to work with established professionals, and all proudly based in the Midlands.
